The first-ever Ohio Valley Cannabis Cup is set to make its debut this weekend, September 19-21, transforming Breezy Acres Cannabis and Music Park (CAMP) in Cadiz, Ohio, into a hub for cannabis enthusiasts, home growers, and music lovers. This multi-day event promises a unique blend of competition, education, entertainment, and commerce, celebrating the evolving landscape of cannabis culture in the region.
Organized by Bill Schmitt Jr., owner of Holistic Cloud and a vocal advocate for cannabis legalization in Ohio, the Cup aims to provide a safe and engaging space for the community. “I’m thrilled to offer the cannabis community in the Ohio Valley and beyond a safe event to bond with like-minded people, welcome newcomers and celebrate the best home-growers in the region while also having a lot of fun with an exciting entertainment line-up, fantastic vendors and camping in the beautiful rolling hills of Breezy Acres CAMP in Harrison County,” Schmitt stated. His enthusiasm is shared by John Kanopsic, owner of Breezy Acres CAMP, who added, “This is a great way to celebrate the freedom we have in Ohio to grow and responsibly enjoy cannabis”.
A Celebration of Homegrown Talent and Cannabis Culture
The core of the Ohio Valley Cannabis Cup is its competition, which seeks to crown the best cannabis home-growers in the Ohio Valley and surrounding areas. Participants will vie for top honors in categories such as cannabis flower and topicals, with future plans to include THC concentrates. The grand prize for the competition is a coveted trip to Jamaica, including tours of cannabis farms, provided by 420 Compass, a cannabis-friendly travel company. This prize underscores the event’s commitment to celebrating the plant and the culture surrounding it, especially as Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved recreational marijuana legalization in 2023.
Live Music and Entertainment
Beyond the competitive aspect, the event will feature a robust music festival lineup, highlighting both established and emerging artists. Headlining the musical performances is the legendary Ohio jam band ekoostik hookah, known for their genre-blending sound and electrifying live shows. Also slated to perform are Billy Blaize and the WeedSuit Heroes, along with local favorites Bucket of Puppies. The festival grounds will also host other entertainment, including video game tournaments, branded as “Friday Night Fights,” and cornhole tournaments throughout the weekend.
Trade Show and Educational Opportunities
Attendees can expect a comprehensive trade show featuring over 40 vendors offering a wide array of products and services. Shoppers can find cannabis plants, grow equipment, food and beverages, art, and crafts. For those seeking knowledge, the event will host informational seminars and talks throughout the three days. Isaac Wiegmann, Education Coordinator and owner of Thunderbarn Botanicals, will lead experts in discussions on cannabis cloning, propagation techniques, harvesting, drying, trimming, and curing processes. There will also be sessions focusing on the home processing of cannabis flower into oils and butters. Michael Alicea of Alicea Murals will curate the 420 Art Center and serve as the Visual Arts Coordinator, adding a creative dimension to the event.
Event Logistics and Accessibility
The Ohio Valley Cannabis Cup is open to individuals aged 21 and over. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate, with weekend passes priced at $40, which include parking and camping.
